Holiday Dinner with Family
The best wines for a family dinner are those with good manners and low voices. The idea is to fit in and not compete. Something with grace and charm would be perfect, and Ontario wines fit the bill. J-T Gewurz is loaded with charm and Trius Red is a lovely, graceful edition of Cab/Merlot. Both work well with turkey or ham.

Something Sweet by the Fire
Port used to be an old boys' drink, but it now has a more modern look and feel. Warre's sells its toasty, cuddly Tawny in a handsome, clear glass bottle. It's perfect for sipping any time over the holidays – there's no need to have fancy cheese or ball gowns, but do consider bringing out the Stilton and cut glass.

Perfect Pair for a Party
Viognier grapes are the new darlings of white wine. Think Chardonnay, but not as heavy with the makeup. It's a real charmer that's fun to sip any time. Cono Sur makes one of the best – and practically gives it away.
Don't be put off by the Goats label – this is a delicious, warm-hearted red with great drinkability. Not overly rich. Could well convert you to South African red.

On New Year's Eve
If you're celebrating with a hundred friends, go cheap and cheerful. For an intimate event, you'll want quality and a known label. Mumm Napa delivers it all at a reasonable price. Classy French feeling with a hit of Californian fun. Perfect for any cork-popping scenario.
