The Look: Modern Rustic

  1. Create instant drama and warm up the traditional setting by painting one wall a deep shade such as indigo.
  2. Set the mood by hanging botanical prints to bring the outdoors in. Or frame dried petals, leaves or clovers to make your own wall art.
  3. Mix and match a variety of wooden chairs for a one-of-a-kind look. Tip: Look for one-off chairs at yard sales and flea markets.
  4. Roll up the area rug to show off your hardwood floors. Leaving the floor uncovered means it won’t compete with the walls and table for attention.
  5. Create contrast with a natural, linen tablecloth and dark, earthenware dishes, wooden bowls and decorative glassware.
  6. Dress up the table with deep red flowers and berries. Mix different types of blooms and branches for a complete country look.
