Easy Entertaining Tips
Keep your guests comfortable and look like a pro with these pointers:

  • Load up on citronella votive and tealight candles. They add ambience and discourage pesky mosquitoes.
  • Invest in plenty of indoor/outdoor cushions. They can turn your deck into a cozy outdoor room.
  • Use natural elements like rocks or heavy shells to keep napkins in place.
  • Leave out a stack of pashminas or throws so guests can wrap up when the temperature drops.
  • Serve drinks in sturdy glasses. You’ll save your guests from embarrassment (not to mention your glassware) if the wind picks up. Skip the stemware in favour of chunky glasses made of shatterproof acrylic.
  • Make serving and cleanup quick and easy – use a trolley to carry serving platters and dirty dishes back and forth from the kitchen.
  • Bring elements of the cottage life into the city. You may be surprised how memorable a slow summer evening playing board games with friends can be.
