Kids in the Kitchen

Easy ways to make your kids' table so cool grown-ups will wish they could score a seat.

Simple tips and advice for making kids feel special and included in your celebrations.

Helping hand. While you set the adults’ table have your little one set the kids table. It’s a great opportunity to teach them the proper placement of plates and cutlery. Tip: Consider buying colorful plastic dishware and utensils to match the table theme and to minimize breaking.

Goodie bags. Make a trip to the dollar-store with your child to pick out small treats and toys and then make loot bags together. Tip: Be sure to personally address each bag and then it can also double as place card.

Dessert Bar. Make (or buy) cupcakes and icing the day before your party – kids can help out by measuring and mixing the ingredients. Then after dinner serve your little guests undressed cupcakes and provide them with icing and sprinkles so they can decorate their own.

In the kitchen. Before your guests arrive be sure to let your junior chef help you with some simple dinner prep. Kids are great at tossing salads (don’t overfill the bowl), measuring ingredients, stirring and pushing the button on the blender (just make sure the lid’s on tight).

Down the hatch. Make a signature mocktail or punch just for the kids and be sure to serve it up in fancy plasticware with fresh fruit garnishes.
