Old Flavour, New Twist
In the style of the trendiest hotel bars, take a classic cocktail for a fresh spin.
Newstyle: Irish Manhattan
Three parts Irish Whiskey*, one part white vermouth (dry), stirred in ice with a squeeze of two or three lemon wedges.
Taste: Fresh, dry, citrusy.
The Original: Manhattan
Two parts Canadian whisky* (or bourbon), one part red vermouth (sweet), stirred in ice and strained over a Maraschino cherry.
Taste: Sweet with a faint, warm spiciness.
*WHISKEY OR WHISKY? The spelling of this grain spirit depends on its origin: Ireland and the U.S. = whiskey; Canada and Scotland = whisky.
