As a personal shopper for Holt Renfrew, Marlo Szellos is trusted for her impeccable taste – and this applies as much to her Toronto home as her wardrobe. The fact that she and her entrepreneur husband David met and married in Paris sheds light on a shared aesthetic that eschews frou-frou for refined comfort.
When they bid adieu to their Parisian flat in 2005 – children Max and Mila in tow – they’d amassed a large collection of art and decor that they shipped to Toronto. “We wanted to create an apartment feeling in a house,” says David of returning to Marlo’s hometown.
