Considering that the couple rented a cramped apartment in the city, impulse cottage buying wasn’t in their real-estate plans. But it was important for Laura, who spent summers on Fire Island with her family, to have a summer place that reminded her of being home. "With so many of my family and friends being from out of town, we wanted a peaceful spot where we could entertain them,” she says.
