Energy Saving Tips

11 ways to start being more eco-conscious through out your home

  1. Replace regular incandescent light bulb with a compact fluorescent light bulb.
  2. Put lights on dimmers and times to cut down on power use.
  3. Move your thermostat down 2 degrees in a winter and up 2 degrees in summer.
  4. Use a clothesline instead of a dryer when you can.
  5. Turn off electric devices and unplug electronics when you’re not using them – they still expend energy when they’re not on.
  6. Be sure you’re recycling at home – everything from paper and plastic to electronics, furniture, appliances and paint. Check out earth911.com for recycling resources in your area.
  7. Choose well-designed, high-quality home items that stand the test of time so you can hold on to them or hand them down rather then throwing them away.
  8. Clean the dryer’s lint filter before every load. A clogged filter increases energy use and it’s a safety hazard.
  9. Plant a tree. Trees absorb carbon dioxide and reduce your air conditioning bill by 10-15%.
  10. Switch and invest in green power – renewable sources such as wind, solar or geothermal.
  11. If you’re not in the market to replace your old fridge with an energy star rated one, defrost and clean the condenser coils regularly to increase energy efficiency.

The more the better. expecially the affordable changes. Some things cost to much for some families to change over to. So if there are baby steps we can take first. we can all make a differance.
