Hyperpigmentation is a common problem that over-the-counter products can’t always fix. One Wish reader went looking for a more permanent solution.
I was in my early 30s when I started noticing the brown marks or “age spots,” on my face, something that runs in my family. Over the next five years, the hormonal changes that came with my two pregnancies meant more faint marks on my cheekbones. They darkened and my skin tone took on a yellowish pallor, with the area under my eyes becoming more prominent. I began having to always wear foundation and powder, even in the summer. Though my skin improved slightly after I gave birth to my daughters, it never fully recovered.
By my late 30s, the marks had merged into masses on my cheekbones at the hairline.
After my first pregnancy, I tried an over-the-counter product and the spots faded slightly. But as soon as I stopped using it, they began to darken again. It was time to try other, more permanent treatments.
LOW TECH
Twenty or so years ago, my mother had some of her age spots “burned off” with dry ice by a dermatologist at about $25 per spot. Although the price was right, I imagined this to be a harsh approach and thought perhaps strides had been made toward a more gentle treatment. I investigated three options and ultimately chose the LHE treatment package.
