Stella McCartney's Eco-Friendly Style
A crusader for animal rights, this British designer makes it easy to be eco-friendly.
Taking Responsibility
Growing up on an organic farm helped establish my personal philosophies, ethics and values – eating organic food, adhering to clear vegetarian principles and committing to help protect the environment. We need to think ahead to what is going to happen to our bodies and our planet in 20 years time, and start taking responsibility. My personal commitment is consistent in my fashion philosophy, my fragrances, my bath and body collection, and my new skincare line. It is all based on organic and environmentally responsible cosmetology. Why shouldn’t it be possible to adopt a more natural, organic lifestyle without forgoing luxury? I believe it’s possible to have all these things without compromising your personal beliefs and the safety of the environment.
– Stella McCartney
Stella's Favourite Charity
When McCartney designed her hit collection for H&M in 2005, the proceeds from one of the t-shirts (made of organic cotton) were split between four charities, including U.K.-based Fauna & Flora International’s Gorilla Conservation Program, which is working to protect the 700 remaining African mountain gorillas in the world. Founded over 100 years ago, FFI tackles environmental and wildlife conservation, while respecting the needs of local residents. The gorilla population has increased 12% since the project began.
Stella's Green Tips:
1. Use organic products. They’re good for your health and quality of life – and organic processes respect the environment.
2. Choose a hybrid car. I drive an environmentally friendly Lexus RX 400h.
Note: Both Stella’s London-based luxury label and collection for Adidas adhere to vegetarian principles – no leather!
Stella’s new skincare line, Care by Stella McCartney, has the added benefit of being 100% certified organic. The products are free from chemical preservatives, genetically modified ingredients, endangered plant species, animal-derived ingredients or petrochemicals, and are not tested on animals.

It's sad that it's taking this long, and longer, for people to acknowledge the effects of Global Warming around the world. I hope more and more designers will follow the foot steps of Stella Mc Cartney and use their influence to make awareness.
